70% of Women Who Get Abortions Identify As Christian

I'll be honest, when I researched the statistics of Christians who have had an abortion I was quite shocked to read that 7 in 10 women who have had an abortion identify as a Christian. I fall into that category, and as much as it pains me to admit that I do, in many ways it has helped me find closure and healing from my abortion. You may be wondering how these horrible statistics have helped me, they help me simply by showing me that I am not alone. Have you ever gone through something believing that you're the only one to have gone through this horrible experience? Whether self-inflicted or it was done to you there is often isolation that happens because we believe the lie Satan tells us that we are alone in this hurt. Can you remember how you felt when you found out that you weren't alone? Do you remember the feeling of relief and connectivity you had with individuals who have gone through something similar? I do, and while it breaks my heart that these statistics even exist, it helps me to know I am not alone in my hurt. There is much strength in knowing whatever you're going through, someone has walked that road before you. That's what I love about 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, those of us who have experienced hurt can comfort those who may be experiencing the same hurt or something similar because we were first comforted by God. While I truly believe that, as people, we can be of great comfort to each other, we must understand that only God can truly comfort us in the ways that we need to be comforted. He is the only one who can bring about the healing our soul and hearts long for. It is my prayer, that if you are hurting you will reach out to the Lord, and that you would find someone who can bring you godly counsel. I have been blessed to be able to find counseling and mentorship with another Christian woman who had an abortion as well. There is a deeper level of connectivity that happens when you can connect with someone who has walked down that road before you. While she wasn't a Christian at the time of her abortion, she came to know Christ and He radically changed her life. She has been such an encouragement and inspiration in my own life. With her help, I have been able to know Christ on a much deeper level. There are people out there who have walked that painful road before you and who want to help those of us who are currently on that road and help stop anyone who may venture down that road.

My friends, Christians are not without their struggles. The Lord never promised that being a Christian would be easy but what He did say was that He would be with us through the struggles (John 16:33). The fact that there are proven statistics that show there are Christian women who have abortions points to the fact that we all struggle, that we all sin, and that we all fall short. No one is without blame and many Christians struggle with following the Word of God. Only Christ was blameless, so my friends, take heart knowing that whether Christian or not, we all struggle. We should only compare ourselves to the spotless lamb. We should only look to Him for an example of how to live our lives. His Word points us to what we should think and believe, Christian or not, we all struggle. Fourthy-five percent of Christians view that abortion is legal in all/most cases. If as Christians we sit here thinking that we've got everything covered and that the church is doing its job, then we need to reevaluate. We need not look any further than the statistics. While I completely understand that we can never be spotless, that no matter how we live our lives, and that no matter how closely we follow Christ, it will never be enough. We are born into sin and nothing that we do will remove that, only Christ's blood can save us from our sin. Even as Christians, we fall short. We sin, we believe in horrendous acts of murder and we act out those sins. This does not excuse what we've done or will do, rather it shows us how desperately we need Christ in our lives. We need Christ to be at the center of our lives. We need Christ in the church. We need Christ in our world.

Wherever you may be. Whatever you may have done, you are not alone! You might just be surprised at how many people are struggling with whatever it is you're struggling with. Reach out to the Lord. I pray that you can find a godly mentor in your life who can help. You do not need to walk this painful road alone.

Lord, you tell us in your Word that we will never be able to make it on our own. That only the blood of your Son can cover us. We thank you for the forgiveness of our sins. We know that we are sinful, that all have fallen short, and that you still chose to offer us hope. Lord, I pray over the hurting today. Remind them they are not alone. You have been there every step of the way. You are the greatest comfort we could ever need! Lord, I pray for godly mentors that can help walk this painful road with us. May we seek you always. May you be the center of our lives. Amen.
