My Story
The world we live in today is full of hot topics that many people have controversial opinions on and believe that they are right. Abortion is as hot of a topic that you can find today. Since the overruling of Roe vs. Wade in June of 2022, abortion has been a sensitive topic that needs to be addressed. Specifically, within the church and yet how does a church biblical stand by and fight for these innocent lives while also offering a safe place for those who have had an abortion where they can seek comfort and forgiveness. I have had these struggles, wondering why we do not see more of the church stepping up and speaking out on abortion. And I can also stand on that side of feeling personally attacked when abortion is brought up within the church. - Here is where my story and testimony come into play.
I had an abortion. At the age of 21, I and my ex decided to get an abortion when we found out that we were pregnant. As a Christian, I knew and believed that abortion was wrong and yet when I was staring at an unplanned pregnancy right in my face, I'll admit my first thoughts were on getting an abortion. I was full of conviction because of what I believed and what I feared, that was confessing to my family that I had sex outside of marriage and on top of that became pregnant. As Christians, we are called to save ourselves for marriage, not because God doesn't want us to enjoy sex, but because He knows and understands the ramifications around it. God created sex and so He does bless it, when done within the commitment of marriage. However, when we step out of those commitments, we are faced with the consequences of our sins. Of course, having sex outside of marriage does not always lead to pregnancy, what it does lead to is a deeply intimate connection with another individual who has not agreed to be in commitment with you. And when that relationship is ended, it creates hurt, more hurt than if sex had never been involved.
I have first-hand experience to that. The pain that comes from a breakup is always devastating and when you add sex to the equation it makes the breakup and healing process that much harder. Now I am not out here to point fingers at people. Trust me, I've got a pretty big log in my own eye, so I am not calling out the speck in the eyes of others (Matthew 7:3, NIV). What I am saying is in the hopes that I can help stop people from making the same mistakes I have. To help heal the wounds that have already happened and to share about the good news that Christ offers us, each and every one of us.
When I was faced with the truths of my pregnancy, I believed that abortion could be an easy fix. Believe me, I know how that sounds- how could I, as a Christian, think and believe that having an abortion would "fix" my dilemma. This is the information that many people are told when it comes to abortion, that it doesn't really affect us, that it's not actually a human, that it's just a one and done thing, and that once it happens life will go on like it never happened. I cannot begin to explain how wrong that information is, you will forever be affected by your decision.
Here's the good news that follows such an evil act. There is forgiveness, redemption, and restoration to be found in Christ. The Bible tells us that when we confess our sin, God is quick to forgive (Micah 7:18-19). He is the only one who can offer us true forgiveness against our sins. My friend, your sins, whatever they may be, are not too big for the Lord. My friend, if I can find forgiveness and healing from a deeply abominable sin, then you can too. My friend, there is hope! Wherever you may be, whatever you may be facing, turn to the Lord.
Lord, you are the only one who can offer the forgiveness, peace and freedom so many of us search for. Lord, I cannot begin to thank you for the healing and restoration I've received. I pray that through you, I may reach those who are lost and in need. May my life and story be a testimony of who you are. Lord, you are a good, good Father, even when I do not see it. Thank you, Lord, for the shedding of your blood so that we may live in freedom. Amen.
